How KIMP Works: A Guide for New Customers

TL;DR

KIMP is one of the top-rated unlimited design services providing ongoing design support for a flat monthly fee. Planning to choose KIMP as your creative partner? Time to understand how KIMP works. From our plans to our scope, processes to the people who’ll be working on your designs – we’ve got all the details right here.

how kimp works

If you’re researching how KIMP works, you’re likely evaluating reliable options to outsource design. The modern marketing space is visually immersive. Brands need designs across touchpoints, designs that consistently represent them. Designs that tell their customers who they are and why they should be taken seriously.

Designs like these are possible when you have a dependable creative partner working on them. A creative partner like KIMP. Your own dedicated design team sans the hassles and expenses that come with hiring and managing an in-house design team.

So, let’s talk about how KIMP works and why our clients choose KIMP over other options out there.

How KIMP Works: An Overview

After more than 15 years of delivering graphic design services across different industries and business models, we transitioned to a subscription-based model in 2019 and launched KIMP.

KIMP was built around a simple idea – businesses shouldn’t have to choose between managing inconsistent freelance support, paying high agency fees, or hiring a full-time designer for every creative need.

Instead, KIMP provides businesses with an ongoing design team through a monthly subscription. You can submit design requests, share feedback, collaborate with designers, and receive completed creative assets through a structured workflow.

The process is designed to support businesses that need design regularly, whether that means creating weekly social media graphics, launching marketing campaigns, producing sales materials, or developing video content.

Unlike traditional project-based design services, KIMP is built around continuity. Instead of starting from scratch with a new designer for every project, our streamlined workflow means that you can pick up from where you left off in your previous request.

The result is a more consistent way for you to manage your growing demand for design without adding the complexity of building and managing an internal creative department.

Understanding the process

Step 1: Onboarding and brand profiles

Once you select a plan and start your subscription, you gain access to your KIMP360 dashboard. This is where you can configure your brand profiles by uploading your brand assets and guidelines.

These brand configurations are stored permanently within the system. Hence, you do not have to repeat these details every time you create a design request. You simply select the brand and you are good to go.

Step 2: Design requests

Select from templates or use the Guided Request Form or our AI-powered request form. Select the right brand profile, dimensions, platforms, goals, and other details that will help your designers better understand your design request.

Your project manager then reviews the request, clarifies any doubts, and assigns it. Your designers then start working on your request.

Step 3: The design process

Your dedicated design team processes the active cards in parallel, spending 2 to 2.5 hours on the account’s priorities every day. During this phase, you’ll see a live timer on your KIMP360 board on active tasks. This provides you with clear visibility into when the first drafts will be ready for your review.

Moreover, our mobile app ensures that you stay up to date with the live notifications. Or if you have integrated with your Slack or Zapier workflows, tracking progress is even simpler.

Step 4: Review and feedback

Your project manager ensures that your design is aligned with your requirements. Once you have the first draft, you review the design. Use the feedback tool to point and click directly on a graphic or video frame to leave precise visual annotations.

Additionally, a native Loom integration allows you to record and link brief video walkthroughs directly on the task card. This feature reduces back-and-forth communication, helping designers execute revisions efficiently.

Step 5: Approval and source file download

Once the creative assets meet your standards, the card is marked as “Completed”. This action immediately opens access to the final print-ready assets, web-optimized files, and fully layered native source files (such as PSD, AI, INDD, or Figma links). These files are ready to be downloaded, giving you 100% intellectual property ownership from day one.

KIMP’s Plans: How KIMP Works When It Comes to Pricing

When understanding how KIMP works, it helps to look at our pricing through the lens of how your business creates and uses design.

KIMP’s plans are clear, straightforward and tier-free. This means that you do not have to figure out what features to give up or what extra to pay just because you need a dedicated design team. Or perhaps because you need to manage multiple brands. These are standard inclusions in all our plans.

So, what changes? It’s simple. Do you need graphic designs, or motion graphics or both? Once you have an answer, you know exactly what KIMP plan to choose.

  • KIMP Graphics (USD 1397/month) – for all static designs ranging from logos to social media, flyers to billboards, UI design (anything that can be designed in PS, AI, or INDD)
  • KIMP Video (USD 1397/month) – for short-form videos (up to 3 minutes long) and video editing (up to 1 hour long)
  • KIMP Graphics + Video (USD 1697/month) – graphics and videos all in one place, and one flat fee

First-time subscribers also get discounted prices for the first few months. Additionally, clients who choose to add more subscriptions to their account in order to tackle their increased design workload also get additional discounts on their subscriptions.

Also, for teams working solely within Canva and needing to offload some creative work or teams looking to create branded Canva templates to reuse later in their design workflows, we also have Canva-focused plans

KIMP360: Where Your Design Workflow Lives

“I would recommend Kimp360 to anyone. Fast, effective, and reliable.” – Simone Evans

When you work with KIMP, your entire design workflow happens through KIMP360, our dedicated project management platform built to make requesting, reviewing, and managing designs easier.

Instead of managing design requests through scattered emails, messages, or multiple tools, you have one central place. Within KIMP360, you can submit requests, track progress, share feedback, and collaborate with your design team. So, to know how KIMP works, you need to understand what KIMP360 is all about.

With KIMP360, you can:

  • Submit new design requests with project details, references, and requirements (use our AI-powered request form to save time or create templates and reuse them when you have multiple designs of similar type)
  • Organize and prioritize your design queue (the KANBAN view makes it easy to drag and drop items when you want to rearrange priorities)
  • Review first drafts and completed designs
  • Share feedback directly with the team (draw on the design or point and click to describe the changes you need)
  • Keep track of ongoing and completed projects
  • Access your design files in one place
  • Manage multiple brands and brand folders all in one place
  • Invite team members

KIMP360 is designed to keep the entire process transparent and organized. For businesses managing frequent design needs, having a structured workflow is just as important as having skilled designers. KIMP360 gives you the system to manage that workflow from request to final delivery.

What Comes With Your KIMP Subscription?

Unlimited design

What does “unlimited” mean? Are unlimited design services truly unlimited? This is one of the first questions our clients have. After all, every design project requires time, creative thinking, and collaboration. So how can a design service be unlimited?

The difference comes down to how the work is structured. With traditional agencies and freelancers, design support is usually based on a fixed number of projects, deliverables, or hours.

KIMP works differently. With a KIMP subscription, you are not limited to a set number of design requests each month. You can continue adding requests to your design queue based on your ongoing needs.

Your design team works through these requests based on priority, complexity, and available production time. This means the actual number of designs completed per month varies depending on the types of projects you submit and the time required to create, review, and refine each design.

However, since we support multiple active requests (3 for KIMP Graphics, 2 for KIMP Video and 5 for KIMP Graphics + Video plans), your designers are working on multiple requests simultaneously. So, the effective output volume per week and over the month is significantly higher than most other outsourcing models.

So, unlimited does not mean unlimited instant deliveries or unlimited projects being worked on simultaneously. It means you are not restricted by a fixed monthly project count or charged separately every time you need another design.

What are the benefits of unlimited design requests?

  • Submit as many design requests as your business needs.
  • Keep your creative pipeline active without project-based limits.
  • Avoid additional fees for requesting new designs.
  • Prioritize projects based on your marketing goals and deadlines.
  • Scale your creative output as your business and content needs grow.

Unlimited revisions

Similarly, there is no upper cap on the number of revisions you can request.

Revisions can be anything like:

  • Updating layouts or design elements
  • Refining colors, fonts, or visual styles
  • Making changes based on brand guidelines
  • Adjusting messaging placement or hierarchy
  • Exploring different creative directions

You will not pay anything extra for these revisions. And since we have multiple requests running simultaneously, your revision requests will not affect the rest of your design workflow.

Dedicated design team

One of the biggest parts of how KIMP works differently from several other unlimited design services is the dedicated creative team that comes with every subscription.

Unlike services where you pay for higher tiers to access dedicated designers, you get a whole team of designated designers no matter what plan you choose with KIMP.  This includes 3 designers specialized in various design categories and with experience handling clients from various industries. And also a dedicated Project Manager to ensure the quality of the process, proper understanding and execution of your design requests and a streamlined workflow.

So, what are the benefits of a dedicated design team?

  • Your designers get familiar with your brand, guidelines, preferences, and creative style over time.
  • Less time spent re-explaining your requirements for every new design request.
  • More consistent designs across different campaigns, platforms, and marketing materials.
  • A smoother feedback and revision process as your team understands your expectations better.
  • Better collaboration between you, your Project Manager, and your design team.
  • Ongoing creative support from a team that understands your business and design needs.

Super-fast turnaround time

For standard design requests, you can expect a 24-hour turnaround time, while more complex projects may require additional time depending on the scope, level of detail, and number of creative elements involved.

The goal is not just to deliver designs quickly, but to maintain a balance between speed, quality, and consistency.

Realistically, this means that you get around 2-3 simple designs per day. This ensures that week after week, your regular designs and seasonal campaign designs are all ready on time.

Benefits of KIMP’s fast turnaround times:

  • Keep marketing campaigns moving without long design delays.
  • Get quick support for time-sensitive creative needs.
  • Maintain a steady flow of content across your marketing channels.
  • Reduce bottlenecks caused by waiting for design support.
  • Launch campaigns, promotions, and updates faster.

“This service is great! We got up to 3 designs per day, which they kept up with. They are very communicative…” – Iron Ghost Media

Full design ownership

When comparing unlimited design services vs freelancers or even when comparing this model against design agencies, one of the key details to look at is design ownership.

With some design agencies and freelancers, you get designs but do not own them. Some charge extra to provide you with source files and full ownership of the design. However, with KIMP, you own every single design that’s created for you.

You also receive the source files for completed designs, giving you access to the editable versions of your creative assets. This allows you to make future updates, adapt designs for different platforms, or continue using the files as your business needs change.

Whether it is a social media graphic, marketing material, presentation, advertisement, or branding asset, having access to source files gives you more flexibility and control over your designs.

Benefits of receiving source files and owning your designs:

  • Greater flexibility to repurpose your designs.
  • No dependency on KIMP for every future modification.
  • Complete control over how you use your creative assets after delivery.

How KIMP Works: FAQs

What types of designs can I request through KIMP?

KIMP supports a wide range of graphic and video design requests, including social media graphics, digital ads, presentations, marketing materials, brochures, flyers, branding assets, illustrations, templates, video editing, motion graphics, promotional videos, and social media videos.

What types of designs are not supported?

While we do cover UI design, including website design and app design, we do not provide website development or coding services. This means that we can cover the design part but we do not write code or set up websites. We also do not write copy, so clients must provide the final, proofread text for all requests. Additionally, we do not handle advanced three-dimensional modeling or CAD blueprints, nor do we provide strategic marketing consulting, storyboard creation, physical photography, or video shoots.

Can I pause my subscription if my design needs slow down?

Yes, absolutely. Unlike traditional agencies that lock you into long contracts, KIMP operates on a flexible, month-to-month basis. If you have a slow month or are in between marketing campaigns, you can easily pause your subscription with a few clicks in your billing settings. Your brand profiles, assets, and design history will remain saved in KIMP360 so you can pick up exactly where you left off when you reactivate.

Who is KIMP best suited for?

KIMP is best suited for businesses that need ongoing creative support rather than occasional one-off designs. Small businesses, startups, SaaS companies, ecommerce brands, marketing teams, agencies, and content creators use KIMP when they need a reliable design workflow without hiring and managing an in-house design team.

Can agencies use KIMP for client work?

Absolutely. Agencies can use KIMP to support their client design needs. Many agencies use KIMP as an extension of their internal team to handle ongoing creative production, manage increasing workloads, and scale their design capacity without adding full-time designers.

Can KIMP create print-ready designs?

Yes, we regularly design physical marketing collateral like packaging, t-shirts, brochures, business cards, and billboards. To ensure your assets are print-ready, simply tell your Project Manager if you need crop and trim marks added. You should also specify the bleed size if you or your printer has a preference. If you are not sure what bleed settings to use, just let our team know, and we will recommend and apply standard print dimensions based on the design type. We always recommend running a physical test print to verify layout clarity and QR code functionality before executing a large print run.
