Friday’s here, and that means one thing – it’s time for KIMP’s Picks. So what is KIMP’s Picks? A weekly recap post summarizing the social media buzz so that you can catch up on all the AI news, social media algorithm shifts, and buzzworthy content without spending all your time doomscrolling.

So, are you ready to get a quick recap of this past week? Let’s get started with the KIMP’s Picks, October 10th Edition.

In the Marketing Realm

Anthropic’s pop-up draws massive crowds in NYC

In the digital age, where automation and AI are all that people can talk about, brands need to take a step back and focus on real interactions. Authentic real-world engagement still has its value. Don’t believe us – the response to Anthropic’s pop-up in New York City proves the point.

Anthropic announced the pop-up via social media, and the response was overwhelming. Participants shared photos of the pop-up, the long lines, and the branded swag. Though small and localized, the event ended up creating buzz for the brand even on social media. This demonstrates the power of surprise campaigns and experiential marketing in a competitive landscape.

The power of fandom marketing

Aligning with cultural moments is one of the most impactful ways for brands to connect with their target audience and nurture a sense of community. Social media giants like TikTok and Instagram recently demonstrated the power of fandom marketing, particularly resonating with the Swifties.

TikTok deployed a limited-time activation along with an in-app hub that gave fans a way to flaunt themed frames and more on their profiles. On the other hand, Instagram introduced a new Add Your Clips sticker to allow fans to remix Story posts from other users with their own video clips.

Campaigns like these are highly targeted and are significantly appealing to the niche audience they are designed for. This makes them high-converting ideas for brands looking to boost engagement.

The growing importance of creator marketing

Digital news platform Semafor shared a post discussing the importance of creator marketing in the age of AI.

The insightful discussion talks about the explosion of AI trends and how that’s changing marketing. It also discusses the subtle but crucial difference between influencers on other social media channels and creators on YouTube.

The key difference highlighted is the authenticity that creators and their content bring to the table. And how this authenticity is exactly what brands need today.

In the Content Marketing Realm

AI is useful, but not enough for holiday marketing

As brands are juggling with holiday marketing, AI has become a useful tool. However, a recent article from ADWEEK discusses how AI, despite being resourceful, might not be sufficient to transform your holiday marketing strategies.

The fact is, marketers are going all-in on AI this holiday season, using it to predict audiences, generate creative at scale, and optimize media in real time. The appeal here is efficiency, but the catch is that without a strong identity foundation, AI is just guessing.

In fact, shoppers aren’t blindly following AI suggestions. Only 12% plan to use AI for holiday purchases, mostly to hunt for discounts. Reviews, retailer websites, and word of mouth still dominate decision-making. That’s a wake-up call for brands and a reiteration of the fact that even sophisticated AI campaigns can fail if they ignore what consumers actually trust.

So, remember that authentic content in the form of customer testimonials and UGC still turn out to be valuable in holiday marketing.

In the Design Realm

Domino’s rebrands after more than a decade

Domino’s has unveiled its first major brand refresh in 13 years. The new look, developed by Work In Progress, draws inspiration from both the brand’s history and its future, aiming for a more contemporary identity.

This significant redesign moves the focus back to the core product – pizza delivery. The previous emphasis on technological innovations, like app features and driverless delivery attempts, is now being downplayed. The refresh signals a return to basics while modernizing the overall aesthetic.

While brands around the world are shifting toward more modern identities signaling a transition to tech, Domino’s decision to get back to its roots is definitely a bold move.

By simplifying its visual elements and reconnecting with its established heritage, Domino’s is aiming to reinforce its position as the king of pizza delivery. This strategy acknowledges that consumers care most about the product and service, not the underlying technology narrative.

Brand identity with a refreshing twist

It’s Nice That is a great place for some quick creative inspiration. In a recent post they discussed the brand identity of Sun Day, a new global climate action initiative founded by environmental activists Bill McKibben and Denis Hayes, co-founder of Earth Day.

The movement aims to accelerate the clean energy transition by mobilizing collective action. The identity features an incomplete sun logo, inviting individuals to “finish the sun” and participate in the cause. This approach emphasizes unity and collective effort.

The flexible branding is reinforced by a “living” typeface. This custom font intentionally resembles the urgent, handmade quality of protest posters, allowing participants to easily redraw and remix elements.

This design project highlights the impact of design on brands and its role in brand messaging. It also shows how design can help amplify your message and boost engagement.

In the AI Realm

Google’s Opal goes global

Google has expanded Opal, its no-code AI mini-app builder, to 15 additional countries, including India, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, and Singapore. Originally launched in the U.S. two months ago, Opal allows users to create AI-powered mini-apps using natural language prompts, eliminating the need for coding skills. This expansion aims to empower creators, students, and developers worldwide to bring their ideas to life quickly and visually.

The latest update introduces several new features to enhance the user experience. A visual workflow editor now enables users to build and customize their apps step by step, with real-time error reporting and debugging tools.

Additionally, Opal integrates with Google’s Gemini AI models, providing advanced capabilities for app generation and customization.

Google’s AI Mode expands to more countries and languages

Google is rolling out its AI Mode in Search to more than 40 new countries and 36 additional languages, expanding access to over 200 regions worldwide, including much of Europe.

Powered by Google’s Gemini model, AI Mode enhances search with advanced reasoning and multimodal understanding, helping it interpret complex questions and nuances in local languages. With this expansion, users in more regions can now ask questions naturally, in their own language, and get richer, more contextual answers.

Google’s Gemini 2.5 model can now interact with your computer

Google has introduced the Gemini 2.5 Computer Use model, a new version of its Gemini 2.5 Pro designed to let AI agents interact directly with user interfaces. Available in preview through the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI, the model allows agents to navigate web pages, fill out forms, click buttons, and complete tasks just like a human user would.

This upgrade bridges a major gap in automation. Instead of relying only on structured APIs, AI agents can now perform real-world digital actions, submitting forms, managing data, or even organizing virtual boards, while maintaining strong accuracy and speed.

Google releases Gemini CLI Extensions

Google has introduced Gemini CLI extensions, a new framework allowing developers to customize the Gemini command-line interface (CLI) and integrate it with their most-used tools. With over a million developers already using the open-source Gemini CLI, this update aims to reduce “context-switching” by bringing essential tools directly into the terminal workflow.

Individual users get free access to Gemini 2.5 Pro via the CLI, with a 1 million-token context window and pretty high usage limits.

Chat with apps in ChatGPT

OpenAI has rolled out a new feature – apps that run right inside ChatGPT. Developers can now build these apps using an “Apps SDK” (in preview) that hooks into user chats and surfaces interactive tools at the right moments.

For instance, when discussing travel with ChatGPT, it lets you chat with Booking.com. Or you could talk to Spotify to make a playlist. Users outside the EU (on free & paid plans) can start using apps from partners like Canva, Zillow, Spotify, Figma, Expedia, Coursera, and Booking.com.

It brings together everything needed to design intelligent workflows, from a drag-and-drop Agent Builder to customizable chat interfaces through ChatKit. Developers can visually map out agent logic, connect data sources, and add safety layers without heavy coding.

It also integrates features to monitor inputs and outputs for the safe functioning of the built agents. The Evals feature also allows users to test and refine prompts, measure performance, and automatically optimize results over time.

Instagram will celebrate bold creators with Rings

Instagram has launched “Instagram Rings” – a new prestigious award on the platform, designed to celebrate creators who demonstrate exceptional creativity, take artistic chances, and inspire cultural change. The award honors a “spirit” of courage and ambition rather than a specific content format.

The other new features are about allowing users to find content liked by their friends. Friend bubbles now appear on Reels and Feed posts that friends have liked, allowing users to tap the bubble and instantly jump into a private chat about the content. Additionally, Facebook is rolling out AI-powered suggestions on select Reels, enabling users to find similar content and explore topics without leaving the video player.
